A Local alarm company has offered us their “Promotional advertising price” basically we paid 209 up front for a monitored smoke detector, cellular service, the wireless monitor things, key fobs and stuff. They made it such a big deal that they were only allowed to give the price to certain people, and service was around $30/mo. And all we had to do was keep the sign in the yard. because it advertises for them so they will give it to me cheaper. It would have been 109 but they charged 100 for the smoke detector. Is this a regular scam like the furniture store going out of business thing, or are these real good prices.

I have never seen this topic discussed before, and am wondering why. Most people bring up their experiences with theft and burglaries in PH, then go on to post their warnings and advice on how not to stay safe or theft prevention. None however go on to talk about home security systems however. So…

I was wondering shouldnt philippines have a home security company for burglar alarms that alert the company or police when a break in occurs? I should hope they have a few.

I don’t have a home alarm system. Someone broke into my house yesterday afternoon, took our xbox, laptop, and some other electronics totaling a estimated value of $1690 . A police officer took a report. Today, I received [in the mail] a copy of the police report along with a list of local alarm companies. And I’m thinking about looking into getting one. What would you do? PLEASE no alarm salespeople respond. Thanks.

Types of burglar alarms

After your home is secured by locks, lights, foliage, and a bit of common sense, you may want to think about fitting a burglar alarm. There are several types to choose from, and studies have shown that you will be less likely to become a victim of burglary if you have an alarm fitted.

They fall into two categories

Bell only burglar alarms, and monitored alarms

Bell only alarms basically make a sound when triggered. The sound created is either a ringing bell or siren and the idea is that it tells he burglar he or she has been detected, and it is time to leave. Also, the presence of some kind of alarm may deter a burglar away from the property.

Sadly, with alarms ringing loudly in many parts of the country, we have all learned to ignore the sound. A little like car alarms.

Monitored Alarms

These alarms are connected by telephone to an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC). Should the alarm be triggered, the system alerts the ARC of a break in, and staff take action accordingly.

Redcare monitored Alarms

This is a service provided by BT, and works like a monitored alarm, but has additional security against the alarm being cut, as the line is monitored, and should the signal be lost the ARC is notified. It is worth noting that BT only guarantees notifying the ARC in an event of a break in.

Redcare GSM Monitored alarms.

Like the Redcare system above, but features an automatic alert by GSM, or wireless signal to the arc should the line be cut. It is a little like a safety valve of a valve if you will.
